Gozo Hosts Its Third Pride March This Weekend as Malta Celebrates 20 Years of Pride

September 02 2024 06:30 by PCLMedia

This Saturday, September 7th, Gozo will burst into vibrant rainbow hues for its third annual Pride March, a significant event marking two decades of Pride celebrations across Malta.

This year’s Pride holds special significance, as it aligns with Malta’s landmark 20th anniversary of celebrating love, diversity, and the resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community.

LGBTI+ Gozo shared their enthusiasm: “We are honored to stand with the Gozitan community on this special day dedicated to love, diversity, and acceptance.”

Pride is a pivotal occasion for the LGBTQIA+ community, as it commemorates the struggles for gender and sexual equality, celebrates the progress made, and encourages everyone to live authentically and inclusively.

The day will kick off with the inaugural Gozo Pride Village, organized by LGBTI+ Gozo. From 10am to 5pm, Villa Rundle will transform into a lively hub featuring LGBTQIA+ NGOs, local artisans, and advocates. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about available services, connect with community members, and purchase Pride merchandise in anticipation of the march.

The Village will wrap up with a performance by the talented Gozo-native drag artist Olivia Lilith at 4:30pm.

The Gozo Pride March will commence at 6pm on Triq ir-Repubblika, just outside Arkadia, and proceed to It-Tokk and Independence Square. LGBTI+ Gozo will be accompanied by activists, NGOs, and community members to demonstrate solidarity for inclusivity, acceptance, and unity.

Following the march, the celebration will continue at La Grotta with the official Pride Afterparty, hosted by ARC, starting at 8pm.

LGBTI+ Gozo expressed their appreciation: “This Pride, Gozo is not just celebrating—we are honoring the love, diversity, and unity that define our community. This celebration is a true labor of love, made possible with the support of the Ministry for Gozo, the Human Rights Directorate, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Reform and Equality, our LGBTQIA+ NGO partners, and our incredible volunteers and sponsors.”

“Together, we are working towards a future where everyone is embraced for who they are. Join us for this beautiful gathering and be part of our celebration of diversity,” concluded LGBTI+ Gozo.
