Malta International Folk Festival and the Malta International End of Summer Festival

Two international festivals will be held in Malta from September 27. to 29.: the Malta International Folk Festival and the Malta International End of Summer Festival.

The fifth edition of the folk festival will feature twelve international folk groups, while the inaugural End of Summer Festival will include performances by five bands and a majorette group.

The Malta International Folk Festival will showcase the following groups: Devet Osmi BG Folk Group – Bulgaria; Cultural Association of Electricity Authority Employees – Cyprus; Tuisuline Folk Group – Estonia; Paul Curmi Dancers − Malta; Cultural Association of Asia Minor and Residents of Agios Ioannis Serres − Greece; Saime Folk Group − Latvia; Suvartukas Folk Group − Lithuania; VPDK Vidupe Folk Group − Latvia; Ogygia Folk Group − Malta; Macedonian Sun Folk Group − North Macedonia; Kud Dukat Folk Group − Serbia; and Dimitrovec Folk Group − Slovakia.

Meanwhile, the Malta International End of Summer Festival will feature performances from: Antonino Montecassino Musical and Cultural Association − Italy; Malta Majorettes Twirling − Malta; Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia − Italy; Sociedade Filarmónica Vizelense − Portugal; Sud Street Band Musical Association − Italy; and Società Filarmonica Nazionale La Valette − Malta.

Friday, September 27

The Malta International Folk Festival will open at Buġibba Square at 7:30 pm, with all the folk groups participating.

In Valletta, the Malta International End of Summer Festival will begin at 6:30 pm, with a parade of all the bands from Triton Square to St George’s Square, followed by a seated concert.

Saturday, September 28

The Malta International Folk Festival will continue in Żejtun, as part of the Żejt iż-Żejtun festival. All folk groups will parade through the streets starting at 7:30 pm, and then perform on stage in the main square.

At the same time, the Malta International End of Summer Festival will feature a seated concert at Buġibba Square with performances by the international bands, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Sunday, September 29

Both festivals will conclude in Valletta.

Participants from both festivals will parade from Triton Square to St George’s Square and back, starting at 6:30 pm. The folk groups will give their final performance at Great Siege Square, while the foreign bands will participate in cultural exchanges hosted by the Società Filarmonica Nazionale La Valette at their band club.

The events will be hosted by Brian Bonnici, Etienne Schembri, and Debbie Scerri, and entry is free of charge.

The festivals are organized by Leon Promotions Malta in collaboration with Euro Art Productions Italy and the Società Filarmonica Nazionale La Valette, in celebration of their 150th anniversary, with support from the local councils of St Paul’s Bay, Żejtun, and Valletta.
